Your free time

Oxford has many things to do in your free time. There are museums, art galleries, theatres and cinemas; a famous and ancient botanical garden; many beautiful and historical University colleges; two markets; and several streets of exciting shops. On fine days in the city centre street performers often play music to the crowds.

If you prefer something more unusual, you can try the Oxford tradition of punting on the river, or watch cricket and rugby on the university sports grounds.

There are also very many pubs, bars and nightclubs and on Friday and Saturday nights the city centre throbs with life.

Oxford is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in England, including the Cotswolds with its traditional stone-built villages and undulating hills.

London is also very close. Coaches leave every 15 minutes during the day, and the journey takes 90 minutes. Many other interesting cities are close by.

The school social programme

Our school organises a weekly programme of entertainment for students and staff. Every Thursday evening we meet in a city centre pub for Pub Night - an opportunity to make new friends, practise your English and have fun! We also have barbeques, orientation tours of the city, quiz competitions against other schools, football, parties and trips to the theatre and cinema. All our activities are designed to be low-cost.

At weekends we offer cheap one-day excursions to places like London, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon, Brighton and Cambridge, as well as all-weekend trips to Amsterdam, Paris and Scotland. We even offer horse-riding weekends in Wales.
